Salvage Sailor Posted September 23, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 23, 2018 Ecuadorian Naval Vessel - Ceramic plaque on Mahogany circa 1960's BAE CAYAMBE R51 - ex USS CUSABO (ATF-155) In Abnaki class Fleet Tug USN Service 1945 to 1946 Transferred, cash sale, under the Security Assistance Program to Ecuador, renamed BAE Los Rios R01 Renamed BAE Cayambe, date unknown Assigned various pennant numbers from 1963 (R01, R51, R101, R711 and RA71) until deleted in 1999 Specifications: Displacement 1,240 t.(lt) 1,675 t.(fl) Length 205' Beam 38'6" Draft 15' 4" Speed 16.5 kts. Complement Officers 5 Enlisted 80 Largest Boom Capacity 10 t. Armament one single 3"/50 cal dual purpose gun mount two single 40mm AA gun mounts two single 20mm AA gun mounts two depth charge tracks Fuel Capacity Diesel Oil 2,275 Bbls Propulsion four GM 12-278A 750hp Diesel-electric engines single Fairbanks Morse Main Reduction Gears Ship's Service Generators two Diesel-drive 100Kw 120V/240V D.C. one Diesel-drive 200Kw 120V/240V D.C. single propeller 3,000shp In 1962, Cusabo was removed from the Columbia River Reserve Fleet and loaned to the government of Ecuador, where she was returned to service as BAE Los Rios (RA-01). Later renamed BAE Cayambe, the ship was permanently transferred (cash sale) to Ecuador under the Security Assistance Program on 1 August 1978. The vessel continued to serve in the Ecuadorian Navy until decommissioned in 1999. The final disposition of the ship is not known.
