Bob Hudson Posted October 22, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 22, 2018 When I see something "SS" my first thought is "Oh, another fake." A friend brought over a dagger someone offered to sell him. He wanted me to venture a guess as to its realness. So, what should I have told him?

doyler Posted October 22, 2018 Share #3 Posted October 22, 2018 At first glance it looks good from the pictures.THis said I would rather have it in hand.Typically you will see the cross grain on the blade frome being hand ground etc. Eagle and SS roundel look to have a good fit in the grip and also the cross guards look to fit well.Lots of fakes show poor fit and gaps etc The maker code 1196 is a WW2 maker but it is a "unknown maker" the date looks to be 1938. The vertical hanger is an early item and has a fair value on its own
Bill Scott Posted October 22, 2018 Share #4 Posted October 22, 2018 The Dagger and Hanger are both real and text book examples. The maker RZM 1196/38 is Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie.Scotty
