Wilhelm I German Emperor born 22 March 1797 died 9 March 1888 and the first German Emperor from January 18, 1871 to March 9, 1888. Under the leadership of William and his Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, Prussia achieved the unification of Germany and the establishment of the German Empire. This oil painting depicts the German Emperor leading a cavalry charge against the French during the Franco Prussian War. The oil painting dates from the period of the Franco Prussian War.
