Bill_Carman Posted October 28, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 28, 2018 Technically the: Helmet Steel Airborne Troops Mark II, HSAT Mark II. This helmet was, at least the liner, was made by Christie & Co. Ltd., CCL. The helmet is marked on the headband: CCL -7 1/8-1956. The ‘crash pad’ within the inside of the helmet is present. The chinstrap, also marked CCL, is particularly nice because it retains the chamois liner to the cup itself. On the underside of the headband is the name L/BDR Block, an abbreviation for Lance Bombardier, a Royal Artillery rank, it is also on the crash pad and again on the outside of the headband, amongst a couple of others. It is only my thoughts but, I think the hand-painted, red, white and blue, formation sign, on the left hand side of the helmet, was painted by a soldier in the Royal Artillery, as the red and blue colors are often used by the Royal Artillery. The netting gives the impression that the wearer was in a combat role, having to use camouflage, as opposed to being a behind-the-lines gunner. The “46” within the rectangle could be a Battery designation. Thanks for looking. Link to comment
