ScottG Posted October 29, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2018 A small grouping from a departed friend. Major Marjyan Marks served in North Africa and Italy with the free Polish Army. After the war he immigrated to Michigan and worked at the Livonia Transmission Plant of Ford Motor Company. Here are his Division and Corps badges, his hat and beret badges as well as what I think are cap devices and a nice bullion 8th Army ssi with bullion "Poland" tab. These were given to my Son when he was very young and we have kept them all these years. Scott
irish Posted October 29, 2018 Share #2 Posted October 29, 2018 Very Nice grouping. The larger badge at bottom center is for the 3rd Carpathian Rifle Division. The central motif being a cedar tree from their time spent in Lebanon prior to Italy. The top center badge is for the 2nd Polish Corps, these being numbered. The colored penons would likely tell you his branch of service. This Polish army had to travel through Russia first as POW'S and displaced persons, then to Iran and then to the mid-east. An amazing story of survival for both soldiers and civilians. There was also the Free Poles based in England but their story is quite different. ScottG Posted October 29, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted October 29, 2018 Thanks for the great bit of history there. I should have added the division and corps descriptions to the post... I just put them in the title Scott
