irish Posted October 29, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2018 A group of WW2 insignia and photos to an American volunteer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. A photo shot of him in training, the white band around his overseas cap denotes cadet type status. Later with his crew, he is 3rd from left. His aerial gunner brevet as well as other cut off insignia. He had reached the rank of Warrant Officer 1st class by end of war as indicated by sleeve rank on uniform, next post. Unfortunately his name has been lost. This group came out of Northern Michigan.

PaulR Posted November 7, 2018 Share #7 Posted November 7, 2018 This is the first such group I've seen. Did this Canadian unit fight with the Eagle Squadron?
captainofthe7th Posted November 7, 2018 Share #8 Posted November 7, 2018 Very nice, Irish. I'm under the impression that such a progression in rank is unusual for the Commonwealth services...lots of Privates and Corporals with years in and for this airman to reach WO in a few years is impressive. I have ancestry.com, but only for US records. They do show some info available to anyone whose account can access Canadian records Screen Shot 2018-10-29 at 3.46.33 PM.png This award card for Paul Anthony Turner is dated 6 Dec 1954...interestingly enough he has rank of CSM (WO II), but his branch of service is RCDC which I believe is Royal Canadian Dental Corps. The Canadian Gazette may also have information on this man. I'm not convinced that the award card is his, but a look into the Gazette might show his promotions and service number that could confirm or deny the link to this award of the Canadian Decoration in 1954. MattS Posted March 10, 2019 Share #9 Posted March 10, 2019 I believe the white flash on the cap denotes a flight cadet. Nice grouping!
