stratasfan Posted November 4, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 4, 2018 I never realised that I don't often read books about the US during WWII. So, I have been extremely limited on book reviews on USMF. Now, I am thrilled to share some of my favorite books! If you haven't read one of David Howarth's books, you are really missing out! He writes non-fiction like Alistair Maclean novels! "The Sledge Patrol", while not as well-known as "We Die Alone", is one of my favorites, and honestly . . . you can't put it down! It isn't a large book, so can be done in a weekend if you wanted to. It is the story of Greenland during WWII. Particularly the unheralded "Sledge Patrol", that was made to patrol the barren coast in case of German landing. However, the largest reason was the weather stations, that sent weather reports about the convoy paths to Murmansk. When the German's sent a force to take the station, the few brave men and hunters went into action and the tale is amazing! The book also gives a fabulous, concise history of Greenland and the political stand during WWII. Really, a fabulous read!
