PaulR Posted November 6, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 6, 2018 Here is another chapter in the military career of Major Max Re ck. Prior to his participation in the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, he was assigned to the 6.Inf Div / 58 Inf Reg as a Battalion Commander. Here, he was awarded the SWB and Ehrenblattspange. Here is his Warsaw Uprising chapter linked below. http://www.worldmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/313361-warsaw-uprising-of-1944-theme/

PaulR Posted November 6, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted November 6, 2018 Here is a full document grouping to his Adjutant and friend, Oblt Baumkotter. He was killed by a shrapnel hit to the head during the battle. He was awarded the Iron Cross First Class posthumously. Sadly, his document group came with his brother's documents. He was an Artillery Leutnant who was killed in Italy in 1944. Notice that Oblt Baumkotter's BWB document is signed by the Mjr. There are numerous entries in his Soldbuch by him as well. Max was critically wounded a short time later.

PaulR Posted November 6, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted November 6, 2018 Wow! It’s completely amazing you have these! It’s truly wonderful the grouping has stayed together. Thank you so much! Here is another chance find... To many, a bland ND M40 helmet with replaced liner. Completely undesirable, until we look under the hood.

MECHINF-A15 Posted November 18, 2018 Share #14 Posted November 18, 2018 Paul, To answer your question from post #11 in 1942 the Panzerartillerie-Rgt. 16 was "Panzer" in name only. The 2. Batterie was equipped with four towed 10.5 cm l. F. H. 18 field howitzers. The wounding of this Gefreiter saved him from death or capture in Stalingrad. When the 16. Panzer-Division was reformed in 1943 the II. Abteilung in Panzerartillerie-Rgt. 16 received self-propelled vehicles such as the Sd. Kfz. 124 "Wespe" and the Sd. Kfz. 165 "Hummel". I hope this helps. PaulR Posted November 18, 2018 Author Share #15 Posted November 18, 2018 Hi Mike Thank you for the explanation. I understand now. Sadly, he was spared from Stalingrad to be killed in Italy in late 1944. Both brothers died in the war. Thank you for adding significantly to this thread.
