This press release photo is from the photo album of a German PK photographer.

I find this photo interesting mainly in regards to some very unusual insignia being worn.

The title and description as follows:

THE TROOP IN CATERING ANNEX

Food distribution from the field kitchen

Date: 23.2.40

Location: Kaldenkirchen near Wesel

In the "overall photo" it appears qualified food handlers are instructing "trainees" in ration distribution.

In this close-up "the instructor" is wearing dark green EM shoulder straps without branch piping. On these straps are three "pips" (stern) and a single strip of Tresse at

base of the straps. Also note on his collar, NCO Tresse is sewn only to the front and beneath the collar tabs.

In the last close-up "the trainees" are wearing standard German Army uniforms. One exception is in place of shoulder straps they wear a small strip

of Tresse sewn directly to their shoulders.

Comments are more than welcome.
