vintageproductions Posted November 12, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 12, 2018 This piece came out of an album but album was long gone so we couldnt see what else was in it. It is for sure Nicaragua Gendarmie but is it USMC related?

PaulR Posted November 19, 2018 Share #3 Posted November 19, 2018 Nothing Marine Corps related that I can see.
vintageproductions Posted November 19, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted November 19, 2018 The Marines wore the Gendarmie badge while in Nicaragua in the 1920's on their headgear. The badge that is shown in the center of the patch.
irish Posted November 20, 2018 Share #5 Posted November 20, 2018 The triangular portion of the patch is Nicaraguan coat of arms.
PaulR Posted November 20, 2018 Share #6 Posted November 20, 2018 Now that I think about it, I remember seeing a medal with that triangular emblem as the pendant on an old MC uniform at Micky Finn Marine Corps League lodge, right outside of the Quantico base front gate. The patch is not present.
vintageproductions Posted November 20, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted November 20, 2018 Here is what the badge worn by the Marines looks like and a vintage photo of it being worn.
bobgee Posted November 21, 2018 Share #8 Posted November 21, 2018 Bob - Interesting insignia but I don't think it's USMC related. The metal badge you show is an insignia of the Country of Nicaragua. It was worn by US Marines in the Gendamerie and appears on many of their awards.. The initials on your cloth badge are the clue to its identity and I have no idea what they mean....... Best.....Bob Did a little net research out of curiosity. Apparently 'A.M.N.' stands for "Academia Militar de Nicaragua." Self explanatory. Google it up for more details.
