SARGE Posted November 15, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 15, 2018 This is a cased example of the West German Verdienstkreuz 1. Klasse (1st Class) made by Juncker. This Federal Republic of Germany Service Cross is also known as the "Officers Cross". There is a lower class medal that is struck on a round disc suspended from a ribbon and a higher class cross that is worn at the neck on a ribbon. This service cross was instituted in 1957 and can be given to both military and civil awardees. It is a vaulted pin back enamel cross and is worn on the breast pocket of the uniform. Notice the accompanying miniature on a bow shaped ribbon that could be worn in the lapel buttonhole of civilian clothing.
S.ChrisKelly Posted April 29, 2023 Share #2 Posted April 29, 2023 Below are images of the Verdienstmedaille, and both lower classes of the Verdienstkreuz. All were obtained from different sources, and presented as genuine.
S.ChrisKelly Posted July 11, 2023 Share #3 Posted July 11, 2023 This is a great resource about the Verdienstmedaille, although it is in the German language: https://ordensmuseum.de/bundesverdienstorden/stufen/stufe-verdienstmedaille/ Some relevant [translated] information from this source: The Verdienstmedaille was created/established by decree on 8 December 1955, and the first awards were made in February 1956. Between 1956 and 1961, approximately 1109 were awarded, mostly to foreigners. There are images of awards from the late 1950s, up to 2009, which are examples from manufacturers Steinhauer & Lück, C. E. Juncker & Bender, showing variants.
