"GI Joe" Prototypes

Cotswold Collectibles asked me to work for them making metal prototype guns, swords, armor and anything else they needed for their line of twelve-inch G.I. Joe figures. Since most of the miniature prototypes created are of objects that were originally machined, not cast, and the one-sixth scale so small, I found that sculpting these objects from clay or wax was not a viable option. I created prototypes by handcrafting dozens and sometimes a hundred or so individual pieces of brass that were brazed and silver soldered together to form the final object. The prototypes would then be sent to China where a pantograph machining system would create injection molds to produce the final plastic toy. I also worked for several other toy companies including creating prototypes for Flatt Figures Phantom and Zorro. Included are a number of Cotswold ‘s Elite Brigade figures carrying and wearing the production plastic and/or pewter weapons, helmets, armor, insignia and accessories. All figures are 1/6th scale and 12” high.

Wow! Super amazing! I'm just starting to figure out how to make a British Life Guards breast plate for a 17" fashion doll, so this is really inspiring! Thanks for sharing! So . . . do you like making miniatures still?

Kanemono,

Those are absolutely fantastic. The artistry and detail is amazing. I myself cannot draw stick people well, so items like this are always a wonder to me. Thanks for showing.

This cased set represent items that would be carried by a British officer during the French and Indian War. The previous Highland items were made for the Franklin Mint. They were never put into production. I made a number of "idea pieces" for the mint.
