Identify WW2 German Buckle? = REPRO

Can't speak on originality, but the crest appears to be the Prussian Kripo Crest that was used briefly during the time Goering was in charge before it was absorbed into Himmler's sphere of influence. I've read that before Himmler absorbed them, departments often had their own local crests on the buckles

I have this Kripo badge with the same crest in my collection...

I have been in conference with some buckle scholars on the WRF and they believe this is a fake enlisted Forestry Official buckle.

Although,,, Brig has brought to light some interesting information about the Kripo connection, so this may merit some more investigating..

I have also noticed the same design that Brig has shown for Penal Battalion Administrator Buckles...

I will do some more investigating,, but the buckle you posted has been written about in a buckle book, (I presume John Angolia's ) Buckles and Brocades of the Third Reich. I just purchased this book so I will not be able to check that reference until the book arrives.

I will continue to confer with some friends on the WRF.. (War Relics Forum)

I just checked my messages from the WRF and one member who is very scholarly and has a tremendous knowledge of buckles has confirmed this buckle is a common fake. The catch, prongs and box on this buckle have been confirmed to be fake..

Interesting buckle to say the least and once again proof that most any Third Reich items have been copied and in this case was a fantasy buckle..

I had one of these that came with a box of other misc GI souvenirs. I always thought it was a good piece but was never able to ID it. Thanks for the info.

Hi,

I know I am a bit late to the party on this thread, but this design of buckle is for Third Reich Justice Officials rather than Forestry. The sword of justice and the lightning bolts of punishment I believe. This one is a known reproduction. The green paint on the reverse of the denazified one in my pictures is probably the biggest give away (who would need camouflage paint on their buckle while working in a court, prison or office ?)

Best Regards

Tony
