Zollschutz (Customs) Peaked Cap

Gents,

Since I started a thread on Zollschutz (Customs) uniforms I thought I would start a companion thread with a Landzoll peaked cap. This cap is a Government issue low-bid enlisted man's peaked cap for the German Customs Service (Zoll) controlled by the Treasury Department (Reichs Finanz Verwaltung = RFV). This cap was made by Clemens Wagner and is typical of his lower priced item of issue style caps. It is green wool with dark green piping and a leather chin strap. Zollschutz peaked caps had a variety of chin straps and cords that indicated the pay grade of the wearer. The lowest pay grade wore this black leather strap while higher pay grades wore green/aluminum cords with the less green and more aluminum in them indicating higher pay grades. The visor is made of pressed paper and the interior has an orange oil cloth lining typical of EM and NCO style Schirmutzen and Klappmutzen.

Notice the dark green outside head band, which matches the dark green Landzoll uniform collar. Also notice the distinctive squared aluminum laurel wreath with the Nationale cockade in the center and the Zoll eagle with upturned wing tips. This is the same eagle that is seen on the green sleeve band worn on the left sleeve of the Zollschutz tunic and greatcoat.

Uniform thread can be seen here:
