British Military Mission in Greece 1942 - 44

BMM was a SOE-Cairo * Force 133 * controlled mission in Greece after the success of Operation Harling a sabotage mission led by Colonel Edward C.W. 'Eddie' Myers with Major Christopher M. Woodhouse tasked with the objective of blowing up the Athens-Salonika railway to prevent the dispatch of Axis reinforcements to North Africa.

The force consisted of three British Commando teams * 9 Officers and 3 NCOs * which parachuted into central Greece near Mount Giona on September 30, 1942. After the success of the BMM in cooperation with the Greek resistance groups ELAS and EDES blew up the Gorgopotamos viaduct, Myers was instructed to stay in Greece to coordinate other activities of various resistance groups.

This British resistance and intelligence group became the British Military Mission in Greece which controlled distribution of money, arms, and supplies.

These badges were worn on the right pocket of the battle dress for identification to locals as being a friendly force. This example has poppers added for easy removal, normally the badge would have a integrated strap * Pocket hanger * to hang from the button.
