SARGE Posted December 30, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 30, 2018 Gents,I picked up a nice Wurttemberg Gendarmerie Officer sword at the Show of Shows (SOS) in Kentucky that I thought I would show. This is a Wurttemberg Offizier Infantry Officer Degen (IOD) style sword only marked "Eisenhauer" (Iron Cutter) on the blade ricasso with no maker markings. The plain straight blade is the standard IOD style as is the blued steel scabbard with a single ring. The sword has been officially altered by removing the obverse basket guard with the Wurttemberg shield in the same manner that Prussian Gendarmerie IOD swords were modified at the same time. The pommel on this sword retains the Wurttemberg cypher and there is no grip insignia. These distinctive swords were items of issue to be worn by the postwar Gendarmerie of both German States and are quite difficult to locate. I am always happy to find a sword that I have been looking for and this is one more off the list.
