Early War Tabi

Note: These are generally believed to be the early war tabi, although some argue against that. Either way this style does show up in GI bringback groups from WWII. A point of contention for some is the presence of the 'MADE IN JAPAN' marking in English, although many items were made in Japan prior to WWII that had English text (there were even English language newspapers in Japan). These are not the more popular split toe tabi.

From what I have seen, this style (or one remarkably similar) appears to have been in existence by 1942.

Great to see such a well preserved pair of tabi. These old rubber items are best stored in a dark, cool place.

For sure both this and the split toed style were in use concurrently.

Thanks for posting them!

HI guys, thanks! I was pleased to get them. I spent a few years trying to find a pair that weren't crushed down and dried out. These are pretty hard, but at least that have held their shape.

These came from Advance Guard Militaria quite a while ago now.
