vintageproductions Posted January 25, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2019 Here is another WWII Japanese field cap patch I have not been able to id. Some in Japan thought it might have been a right wing political group from WWII, but I don't hold much to that one. It's about an inch tall, and very WWII era in construction. stratasfan Posted January 25, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 25, 2019 No idea what it is, but super cool to see it from a sewing point of view. Love how they used white fabric for the flag! All-in-all, though, pretty sloppy embroidery. It is funny to see lots of the patches from the Great War and WWII, and you realise they weren't creating collector's items. Just something to wear. tiger41 Posted January 25, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 25, 2019 Bob, Is this another one of the things your guy in Osaka had that you wouldn't show me and Dean ? I know you are aware there were a number of department stores and military vendors who made custom uniforms and insignia in and around the military bases during the war. I have a catalog from one showing several pages of similar insignia. I have not seen this particular piece but what I do see is a sun with rays extended out behind a national flag on a pole. Given the quality of the workmanship, materials and color this type of insignia was often made for the merchant or commercial sea lines. This piece is made too well to be for a field cap (my opinion) rather for a visor hat. I think it could be a smaller piece, centered inside a wreath. It's looks more nautical to me. vintageproductions Posted January 25, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted January 25, 2019 Nope, this one came from the flea market guy in Osaka we introduced you guys to. I will throw in my bag and bring with me to SOS. Maybe it was made for a center of a different cap badge, but when you see it, it appears to be made to be worn by itself.
