teamski Posted February 3, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 3, 2019 A fellow member posted his Bf 109 control handle reminded me that I wanted to post this. I picked this up in the UK at an aviation flea market at the Rougham Tower Day back in the 1990's. The guy had two of these tied up to a tree and I wanted one really bad. The story: they were supposedly found up in Boston Lincs in a barn where a Whitley bomber crash landed and the blades were left in the field where the farmer stored them. I bought one and I regret not getting the other as they were from the same plane. I was only a SSgt at the time and I was fortunate to get that, having a wife and kid in tow! Money was skint! Over the years, would look up the Whitley bomber and while the same type of Jablo cuffed blades were used, they were way bigger. I found some tech data from Jablo and everything started to come together that this was off of a Spitfire MkV. It was the only aircraft and the only mark of Spitfire that used these particular blades. All the better right? The blade is heavy as it still has its base and hub link (hidden by the base). Wish I could find somewhere in the US where you can find some load adjusters! Your prop is amazing and being a Spitfire prop is super cool! Bet you are thrilled you got that one! They wanted $125 for it which I just didn't have at the time. Should have sold a kidney or something. Congrats on yours! Mikie Link to comment

The only markings are the serial number. On RAF blades the serial number of the blade is in the middle while the other two identify the other blades on the propeller assembly since they are balanced together. I really wish I had gotten the other blade as its serial number would one of the other numbers..... -Ski Link to comment
