Greetings all! Thought I would start a thread for us to post any Polizei portraits that you have in your collection and would like to share. This is another area of mine that I enjoy collecting. Would love to see photos from other's collections as well!

This photo came with a Wehrpass. This Polizeiman became a Panzerpionier and was killed in action on 3 September 1942 in the Ukrane. His name was Mühlbauer (Franz).

And to end for now, here are couple of postcard photos taken in Pilsen. Not portraits, but 2 photos of the same unit.

Kev,

Nice portraits! I collect Polizei, and other law enforcement agencies, photograph albums. Nice to find another photo collector.

Here are some Polizei photos that I particularly like. Some interesting subjects such as early Landespolizei, Female Polizei, Hilfspolizei, and different state police sports shirts worn at a police sporting event.

Thanks Sarge. Excellent photos! A very eclectic collection of interesting subjects for sure! Thanks for sharing. I actually started my collecting focusing on TR photos, though that quickly branched out. ;) Here are a few more of mine. Nothing special really, but still photos I like...

Kev,

Yes, the fellow on the viewer's right is a Luftschutzpolizei member wearing his Luftwaffe style tunic. It is also interesting to note that the Polizei Leutnant in the photo above that is wearing a NCO flat eagle on his peaked cap instead of the more "proud" two-piece officer style eagle. Never say never as collectors would think that eagle was incorrect on an officer cap if we saw this cap on a table at SOS.

The guy with the cape in post #7 is a Bavarian Landespolizei (LAPO) Officer. He is wearing a peaked cap instead of his Tschako as he is directing maneuvers in a field exercise. Notice his binoculars and his map case.

Here is another photograph, from the same photo album, showing another Bavarian LAPO Officer reading orders to his men. Notice his peaked cap and the eagle & swastika insignia worn over the right breast pocket of his tunic. This uniform is dark green with black collar and cuffs. The pants could be either dark green or black depending upon the time frame. The peaked cap is dark green with a black band and has police green piping.

Brig,

Here is a Bavarian LAPO Major's uniform that illustrates the color of the uniforms in the photos above. The eagles over the right breast pocket in the photographs help narrow down the time frame to circa 1934-35.

The signed photograph right above the female Polizei wearing capes is also of an enlisted Bavarian LAPO soldier just before these guys transferred en-mass to the Heer and Luftwaffe. Notice the small things about his uniform such as the polished (Glatt) police buttons and Polizei collar tabs and shoulder boards. He is still wearing his eight button front Polizei uniform with added Heer style insignia on his tunic and cap.

  • 8 months later...

Nice postcard style pictures ed101. The fellow wearing a Tschako on the left has the early "tobacco" colored collar tabs. I can't read the cuff title on the standing NCO on the right but it is either "Motorized Gendarmerie" or "Deutsche Wehrmacht" I suspect.
