austin_militaria Posted March 19, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 19, 2019 I am pretty sure this is pre-1900. In a metal scabbard. I am having trouble reading the cypher and an ID on the pattern as it does not conform to any I have seen. Any help would be appreciated. Link to comment
austin_militaria Posted March 19, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted March 19, 2019 I have determined that it is an 1821 Heavy Cavalry Pattern, but I cannot find any with a crown and cypher in the guard. Link to comment

austin_militaria Posted March 19, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted March 19, 2019 Are these the only pictures you have to go by? No, I have the sword. Markings on the blade. Crown over 30 E, broad arrow over WD and an X. Other side has '94, '99, 85E, 30E. and some other numbers that are hard to make out. Link to comment
austin_militaria Posted March 19, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted March 19, 2019 I figured it out. 1882 pattern Household Cavalry, Victorian era. First issued in 1897. Link to comment

SARGE Posted March 20, 2019 Share #8 Posted March 20, 2019 Very good detective work. Now that you point it out I can see the entwined "HC" in the guard below the crown. I could not make it out before. Link to comment
Will M Posted May 18, 2021 Share #9 Posted May 18, 2021 It's actually the 1892p HHC troopers sword. The grip has been recovered in leather, originally would be shagreen ie fishskin. The scabbard is the 1885/90 type with fixed opposing rings. HHC scabbards have a lower loose ring and an upper small fixed ring and bar. Link to comment
Blade69 Posted December 23, 2022 Share #10 Posted December 23, 2022 Really I thought it was a British 1894 infantry sword Link to comment
