Polygon Posted May 11, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 11, 2019 Hey guys, I picked up a helmet that was labeled as an experimental U.S. helmet by the seller, but I'm not sure that's the case. I've tried comparing the helmet to Italian/Spanish/Portuguese models out there but it doesn't match up in terms of the shape (like the dip in the helmet, extremely short visor) or the placement of rivet holes. The helmet also appears to be unmarked. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.

triplecanopy Posted May 11, 2019 Share #6 Posted May 11, 2019 It looks like early East German to me.
triplecanopy Posted May 11, 2019 Share #7 Posted May 11, 2019 This is a well known photo of an East German soldier hopping over the newly erected barrier that later became the Berlin Wall. That looks like the same helmet as in the photos above.
Polygon Posted May 11, 2019 Author Share #8 Posted May 11, 2019 I don't think it's East German. Here's a profile view of the East German M56 and you can see there are a number of differences shape wise between the two.
triplecanopy Posted May 11, 2019 Share #9 Posted May 11, 2019 I see what you mean. Any other suggestions?
jlh Posted May 12, 2019 Share #10 Posted May 12, 2019 Looks similar to a Serbian helmet.
Polygon Posted May 12, 2019 Author Share #11 Posted May 12, 2019 The other possibility is that could someone have cut down the helmet?
numbersix Posted December 9, 2021 Share #12 Posted December 9, 2021 I think this is a Spanish M21 helmet, the shape and rivet holes seem to match up to this example, it is quite rare by all accounts:
