SARGE Posted June 1, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 1, 2019 Gents, This is a early Japanese Murata Saber Bayonet. This one has a nice even overall patina on the hilt and scabbard fittings while the blade remains bright. The grips are checkered leather and the flat spring and push button operate freely. The black leather scabbard has two steel fittings and the leather has not shrunk. Notice the serial number on the pommel and the Japanese mum on the cross guard. SARGE Posted July 13, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted July 13, 2019 A little more information on this rather scarce early Type 18 (1885) Murata bayonet. This style of saber bayonet has a straight blade with the serial number on the pommel as seen in the photos above.
