RussM Posted June 8, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2019 Here's one of my favourite worn and used winter caps. It is dated 1944 and is from the Kure Military Stores Department. The cloth label is stitched to the side of the interior like the earlier wool caps, rather than in the middle. Regards Russ
tiger41 Posted June 9, 2019 Share #2 Posted June 9, 2019 Russ, The Type I petty officers caps is one of the more desirable combat caps and a little more difficult to find. I have never understood why a few late war caps have the label sewn on the interior side rather than on the interior crown or in the case of a few Type 3 (green) caps with the ink stamp on the side. It's possible the tag came loose from washing and or wear and the side of the cap was an easy place to resew it. At that stage of the war anything is possible. There are caps where the tag was factory sewn or stamped that way. In either case its a nice example. tiger41
RussM Posted June 9, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted June 9, 2019 Thanks for your comments tiger! It's nice to have an example of something that is a little unusual. Regards Russ
