Rakkasan187 Posted June 12, 2019 Share #3 Posted June 12, 2019 This looks like a SS-Gau-Essen buckle.. It looks fairly worn and I am not too sure of the authenticity. I can't quite make out the makers mark... The pebble pattern, I believe, was only seen on the Gau Essen SS buckles and was not official in nature but was attributed to SS units stationed in the Essen district. I have never seen one before.. I'm not too well versed on SS items so I would be hesitant if the price was not right.. Leigh
easterneagle87 Posted June 12, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted June 12, 2019 Leigh, Thanks for the input. To ask the intelligent queation, The makers mark would be infront, to the the left of the attaching loop? I got out of collecting German 25 years ago due to the amount of fakes and packed all my books away. Actually, the price is reasonable. It is quite beat up. I'll see if I can get some more info. Thanks, Ben
Rakkasan187 Posted June 13, 2019 Share #5 Posted June 13, 2019 Hello Ben, Yes the manufacturers mark is what appears to be a capital A follwowed by a letter I can't figure out, then the & symbol and a letter S.. I am still looking at manufacturers so hopefully I will be able to get an answer for you.. Leigh
Rakkasan187 Posted June 13, 2019 Share #6 Posted June 13, 2019 Ben, Based on what I was able to confirm,, This is supposed to be an Assmann & Sohn maker mark, but I believe this buckle to be a reproduction.. Here is a link to an original Assman and Sohn Gau Essen Buckle, (Not marked) But notice the "ears" are not angled as in the comparison link. The Landspolizie buckle has the same marking and canted ears also made by Assmann and Sohn... http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/german-belt-buckles-brocades-straps-1900-1945/gau-essen-283528/ I do believe this one may be fake..
