Kanemono Posted July 2, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 2, 2019 This is an interesting piece brought back by Chief Gilbert Chester Mayer who served with Mobile Explosive Investigative Unit #4. MEIU#4 was responsible for the battlefield disposal of friendly and enemy ordnance. Also, they were responsible for the collection and dis-assembly and shipment of enemy ordnance for further analysis. They were qualified as Mine Recovery Personnel/Second Class Divers. MEIU#4 participated in Anquar, Peleliu, Leyte, Samar, Ulithi Atoll, Eniwetok, Kwajelein, Tinian, Saipan, Palau, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Mainland Japan. This is a Japanese tobacco pouch and pipe with a concealed knife. This is not an opium pipe. Japanese tobacco pipe bowls were very small because tobacco was very expensive. Here also is the cigarette case that belonged to Mayer.
