A Real Dog Tag

Gents,

I picked up a real dog tag yesterday that I thought I would show.

Actually, this is a Hesse Schutzpolizei Diensthund Warrant disc indicating the legal authority of a Police dog. Made like the larger oval Warrant discs (Dienst Mark) carried by plain clothes Kriminalpolizei or Gestapo agents this disc is for a Police Service dog. It is one sided and made of stamped bronze like the discs for humans and it is numbered. Notice the raised lettering and the hand stamped Police Dog number.

Look here for a Police Dog table medal award.

Thanks! I thought it was just neat as a pin when I saw it so I bought it.

Here are a couple of photos of a pre-war book on the Hesse Schupo and a book on Police Dog training. I am going to have to dig out the Schupo book to see if they show any Police Dog tags.

I dug out the 1920s era Hess. Schutzpolizei book and low and behold here is a photo of the police dogs assigned to the Schupo (Regular Police). I also found this photo in the police dog instruction book of a dog assigned to the Kripo (Criminal Police) wearing a similar tag.
