USAF Leather Jacket - Wiesbaden Germany 1948 - 1952

Picked up this jacket a while back. I believe it belonged to a US serviceman who served at the Wiesbaden Airbase during the Berlin Airlift. The mystery is the two chest patches and the SSI on the left shoulder (painted). I know they are not US patches but I cannot identify the foreign country they belonged to. The jacket maker is a company "Braemoor". I suspect the US serviceman must have traded with another for this jacket and then had his time of service painted on the back. The shield shaped SSI does appear to have fleur-de-lis in the top portion. The right chest patch has the word "OB" and the left "NOC". Any help identifying the country of origin would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Paul

What comes to mind regarding the patch are the coat of army of Wiesbaden which contsists of 3 fleur de lis on a blue base. I'm pretty sure that the letters on the left chest patch are "nyc". Maybe the soldier O.B. ? came from New York City?

Thanks very much for taking the time to respond. Coat of Arms for Wiesbaden seems to make sense. And it does appear to be NYC now that I look at it closely. Thanks again!

I guess it will remain a mystery.

Well maybe not. It took a bit of time but I think i found an insignia that could match your SSI. Please compare the remaining details of your leather jacket's SSI with the coat of arms of Bordeaux.

Bordeaux-Mérignac was one of the major air bases the USAF operated in France after WW II:

Maybe a kind of souvenier? At least an insignia like this fits perfectly to the medieval looking chest patches.

Hey Proud Kraut,

Thank you very much for your diligent search! Much appreciated. That sure looks like it's damn close to a match. May have been stationed at Bordeaux then later at Wiesbaden.
