SARGE Posted December 5, 2019 Share #1 Posted December 5, 2019 Gents, I picked up a brown leather belt box that I could use a bit of help with identifying. The box came along with a Model 1863 US rifled musket that was complete with quite a few period accouterments that were in the box. The collector documented buying this rifle in the 1950s but there is no provenance further back that this date. The hard leather rectangular box has copper rivets and two narrow belt loops on the back. The top flap is secured with a leather strap threaded through a brass standing loop. The box is marked "S.F. CO. 6-42" just above the brass standing loop. Anyone know what this box is for or who made/issued it during WWII? Thanks for looking.
