Tonomachi Posted December 29, 2019 Share #1 Posted December 29, 2019 I stumbled upon these three different listings on eBay from the same seller in the UK which a bunch of people have already bid on. In my opinion none of this stuff which is advertised as WW2 are genuine period pieces but copies. The first grouping is a number of SAS wings with 29 bids currently at $680.68. All of these wings to include the two shoulder tabs are in my opinion copies (see link). https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ww2-Rare-collection-of-SAS-special-air-service-qualification-wings-patches/202859392609?hash=item2f3b5cae61:g:5DwAAOSwwJ5d~S~x Link to comment
Tonomachi Posted December 29, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted December 29, 2019 This second grouping with 22 bids currently at $261.80 are all copies in my opinion (see link) except for the Mars & Minerva Artist Rifles badge. However this is not the correct post war Artist Rifles beret badge worn by the 21 SAS. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Collection-of-ww2-SAS-special-air-service-beret-cap-badges-patches/202860695886?hash=item2f3b70914e:g:f9UAAOSw2Bdd~8j5 Link to comment
Tonomachi Posted December 29, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted December 29, 2019 Lastly the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) beret badge with 8 bids currently at $73.30 is a copy (see link). Whomever wins these bids are eventually going to get a rude awakening when they found out they bought nothing but junk. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-ww2-silver-marked-LRDG-long-range-desert-group-beret-or-cap-badge-SAS/202860077617?hash=item2f3b672231:g:VL4AAOSwkdld~oMV Link to comment

Gunslinger Posted January 6, 2020 Share #8 Posted January 6, 2020 Agreed, Most are FAKES mixed with couple of Post War items. This is same eBay Seller Grandads-loft & Insomnia-parents, the seller has like 6 different eBay accounts that he sells under, offering nothing but Trash Bins items as Orginials. Buyer Beware unless you're looking for a place holder. The early pattern 1st SAS ST were hand embroidered not machine embroidered. Beret badges are poorly made examples. Wings are Laughable! LRDG cap insignia are poorly made FAKES. CDub Link to comment
ParaOps Posted January 10, 2020 Share #9 Posted January 10, 2020 Sadly, complete reproductions with one or two post war badges added. The disappointing thing is that the seller provides clear front and back photos so there's little excuse for being fooled. Paul Link to comment

Eric Queen Posted January 16, 2020 Share #14 Posted January 16, 2020 Far from an expert on SAS insignia but I do own a couple (2) which came directly from the veteran (Lt. Josef "Jos" Ghys) which may (or may not) be interesting to look at from a reference perspective. The first one is tunic removed and really worn. You can see a portion of the cardboard guide underneath. Link to comment
Eric Queen Posted January 16, 2020 Share #15 Posted January 16, 2020 The second is on his battle dress. Link to comment
Eric Queen Posted January 16, 2020 Share #16 Posted January 16, 2020 Close up. You can see the vast difference in production quality compared to the set on ebay. Link to comment

ParaOps Posted January 19, 2020 Share #18 Posted January 19, 2020 Hi Eric, Nice wings. The first one looks to be a locally made wing and the second one on the battle dress is a 1944 pattern issued wing. I'll post some photos of my WW2 SAS wings shortly. Paul Link to comment
ParaOps Posted January 20, 2020 Share #19 Posted January 20, 2020 A few WW2 SAS Wings. Paul Link to comment
Eric Queen Posted January 20, 2020 Share #22 Posted January 20, 2020 Very nice Paul. Thanks for the info on the 44 pattern. Did not know that. Yours is exactly like the one on Ghys' BD. Link to comment
ParaOps Posted January 21, 2020 Share #23 Posted January 21, 2020 Yes the 1944 pattern is very distinctive and easier of all the SAS wings to identify. Good collecting Paul Link to comment
Eric Queen Posted January 21, 2020 Share #24 Posted January 21, 2020 Here is a neat photo of the wings in wear. All men identified. Link to comment
ParaOps Posted January 22, 2020 Share #25 Posted January 22, 2020 Great photo Eric. Interesting mix of parachute wings. Looks like a photo taken in Italy. Paul Link to comment
