patches Posted March 18, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2020 This is a 1932 photo of Douglas MacArthur visiting Austrian Army maneuvers when he was Chief of Staff United States Army. But check out the collar insignia being worn by all the Austrian Officers, they're German right, the Officer Litzen and the two Generals, they're wearing German General's alt-Larisch collar insignia, since when did they wear these, The Austrians had their own unique collar insignia right, their traditional insignia like this HERE. Any idea on whats gong on here?
Proud Kraut Posted March 18, 2020 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2020 During the period called "1st Republic" (1920 - 1933) uniforms, especially collar insignia were very similar to those of the German Reichswehr. In 1934 the former K.uK. collar insignia were introduced and worn until the Austrian Army was integrated into the Wehrmacht in 1938. patches Posted March 19, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted March 19, 2020 Fantastic Lars, that answers that then, was odd thought. I also noted this collar insignia and the shoulder straps use Waffenfarbe, again not traditional to them, they as you know using regimental and or branch colors late in the Great War specific to the branch, but not like the Germans really. patches Posted March 19, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted March 19, 2020 Also come to think about it now is the caps, they're German too, we gather when the swtich came in 1934 their tradional caps came back into use. Here's a group with both the traditional collar insignia and caps just after the incorporation into the German Army 1938 were the very first change was the sewing on of the Wehrmacht breast eagles.
