Jack the Collector Posted March 26, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 26, 2020 As many here know, the SS had a number of commercial enterprises operating within the KZ and death camps. One of those was a herb and spice growing operation.Lesser known by many was the Herb garden at Dachau....better known as The Plantation. There were 2 others, one at Ravensbruck and one at Bretsteintal. Himmler was convinced of "miracle plants" that could cure the various maladies of the time. In 1935,the Reich Doctors Organization founded the "Reich Association for Herbal Medicine and the Provision of Medicinal Plants". SS-Untersturmfuhrer Emil Vogt was given command of the plantation on Sept 1,1939 and actually operated past the end of the war, closing in the spring of 1949. I must state that my German is poor but I try. Here is a letter sent by Master Tailor August Obermeier asking to be sent a range of spices. The document is initialed by Vogt.
