Yes, shrinkage, and breakage, were common. More likely just a mis-match in size as well as units.

    Are these period of fake

If you got them from Johnson they could have been NOS (new old stock) or cast postwar as he bought whatever inventory he could find from the attics of makers. The Water Customs pommel looks postwar to me.

    Unique Collar Insignia.

It hid the white of the runes so snipers would have a harder time detecting the SS soldier and using the white as an aim point.

    Badge Identification

A couple of questions I am hoping someone can help me with. Is there a book or website that has USSR military badges. I have found a few, but when I go there, I dont find what I am looking for. Maybe not official badge but commemorative? Pictured below is one that I am looking for. I found it a couple times on line but each description is different. My guess is a commemorative badge for WWII Submarines? Is it from the 50's or more current? Is it official? The other I remember I was looking for was a person running. The only descriptions I could find on that one was "running man" USSR badge. I will have to look for it around here. Again, this is the current one I am looking for info. Thanks in advance. If there is a book with a lot of the badges in such, I would be interested in that as well. Thanks in acvance.

  20. Hello, could be from the "1er Régiment de Chasseur Parachutiste" 1st RCP. Unfortunatly there is not so mutch picture about this regiment witch fought under the US uniform. They fought mainly in Alsace during ww2 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_Parachute_Chasseur_Regiment

The gloss varnish has done it´s job. After I have airbrushed the halftrack with matt varnish again, the glossy borders of the decals aren´t visible any longer (see last picture of this post) From the distance I airbrushed the whole kit with some dark yellow color and drybrushed it with dark sand acrylic color. The halftrack is now united with it´s rockets and MGs etc. Unfortunately the tracks are too short. I have to fix the upper half on the wheels before I´ll start with the the next steps.

    Napoleonic French sword?

Despite the opinion I sought I think it highly recommended to contact a professional in this field before purchasing the sword. Facebook has a number of groups that maybe worth consulting. Gunner
  23. I recently acquired a German 98 first type bayonet and scabbard. Both are unit marked, but unfortunately to different units. Is there a source for deciphering these markings? Bayonet- 178 . R . 7 . 186 Scabbard- B . 15 . R . 12 132 The scabbard appears to have shrunk in length so that the bayonet extends about 1 1/4" from the throat. Is this shrinkage common?

yes- We had 3 or 4 of them. but I think the 1-1.5 is a decent range.

    German Flag?

Small patriotic flag that was handed out for large NSDAP parades or rallies. The details would indicate that it was handed out to the large crowds to wave when high ranking officials or Der Fuhrer would pass in his motorcade. A small wooden dowel would have been on the reinforced end. Given the rough details of the roundel and the frayed edges and the fact these were mass produced it is likely that they were used a few times and then either discarded or put in a dresser drawer. Multiples of these were also strung together with a piece of rope or thin string through the reinforced top and hung over a street or from adjoining windows or balcony ledges. They were again mass produced and they hung outdoors so the condition of the roundel and the frayed edges indicate they would not have been used for formal events where more attention to the sewing and cloth borders would have been taken into account. You can remove the wrinkles by placing a towel over the flag and then using steam and an iron press the towel. You can also lightly spritz the flag with some water and then cover with the towel and let the heat/steam remove the wrinkles. Leigh

    German Flag?

Could anybody help me with exactly what this flag might be? The pocket does not go completely through and as sewn shut at the top. It is double sided. I blacklit it with no issues. Please see the comparison of my hand in the image which will give you an idea on size, however, I can certainly measure it exactly if anyone would want me to. I'm also interested in any suggestions on how to safely get the wrinkles out of this. Thank you in advance! Josh

Thank you for your feedback, I'm assuming that you got 1,500 each for them? My thoughts were in the 1K to 1500 range.
