    East German Grenzschutz Uniforms

Thank you for sharing your phenomenal collection and encyclopedic knowledge of DDR Grenztruppen topics. Truly mind-boggling. I'm certain most of us had no clue so many of these earlier types of uniforms even existed. My head is still spinning! Thank you!!
  5. I don't specialize in NVA / VC stuff but have accumulated a few items I apparently couldn't resist over the years.
  6. Sorry for the late response but I just joined the forum this month. I've been advised that the first set of shoulder boards are war time issued police boards. As you can see they are cloth and pretty ratty from wear. The second set are post war Army Lt boards of pastic with a thin fabric covering.

    VC Pith Helmet Badge

Nice find! Sorry for the late response but I just joined the forum this month. Your hat / pith helmet badge appears to be an original National Liberation Front (Viet Cong) badge. There were clearly variations in style over time but I'd say you've got the real deal there.
  8. Simple early impact fuze with no apparent safety features except the creep spring. It may have incorporated a safety wire to hold the striker in place as there are small holes bored opposite each other in the fuze head and the diagram shows a small hole in the striker about level with the fuze body holes.
  9. Don't know too much about DPRK stuff except what I've heard from vet comrades other collectors or references like the Cabral book but here is the limited amount of stuff I've accumulated.

    My KPA uniform

From what I have read a lot of this stuff comes from defectors and illegal border crossers into Manchuria.

    North Korean 3-Place Ribbon Bar

Very nice. Notice the DPRK high tech pin device, lol.
  15. Haven't found anything in my references yet but the fuze very much resembles later French designs.

Former Indian POWs in England 1945

I believe that tis photo is of South African troops employed as security around military installations within South Africa, not ex P.O.W. I have an example of the spear/Assegai given to me 80s they have a notch on the butt for your thumb so that when on parade all the blades are facing the same way photos are from bid or buy a South African on line auction site

Former Indian POWs in England 1945

Here's a group of them in Slouch Hats with their Elephant Badge, KD Bush Uniforms rather then the OD BD Uniform. Their weapons are traditional spears, ceremonial purposes obviously. Though they ere not be armed with firearms, but I get an indication some after awhile, we guess depending on their duty were issued out capture Italian Army Carcano Rifles, and probably Carcano Carbines too.
  20. No I wound't need that, I thank you though. As far as a WWII Cap Tally Here you go, actually sold by a member here. https://www.ebay.com/itm/224041159772

Army sword forged at Yasukuni Shrine in 1938

Dear Sarge, Many thanks for both editing the duplicate post (I still haven't got the hang of the forum yet) and for your very kind words about my sword. Amazingly, it had been preserved in this polish when I got it over 20 years ago from a Japanese gentleman. It even still retains 'ubu-ha' - the two or three centimetres of blunt blade edge just beyond the habaki, found on most newly forged blades (before it is eventually polished out). It obviously somehow escaped the roundup of swords by the American occupation army - many of which were unfortunately destroyed. To answer your other question, I keep it in the wooden storage scabbard to avoid scratches and use a tsunagi (wooden blade) to hold the original gunto mounts together. In the photo below you can see the Japanese family name 'Taya' scratched onto the tsuba. This was sometimes done by the owner and so I have even been able to pinpoint the likely field officer this sword belonged to as Taya is a very rare name in Japan. He was Major Taya Tsutomu of the Intendance Department, Kwantung Army (based in China). The other picture shows the family crest or 'mon' on the sword and the families associated with it. Therefore, it can be assumed that Major Taya considered his lineage as coming from one of those families. Thank you, once again!
