RustyCanteen Posted October 3, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 3, 2018 This example, manufactured in 1917 by Waring & Gillow, Ltd. is in superb condition. The strap adjustment buckle on this example is made of stamped brass, as opposed to cast brass seen on some examples. The brass adjusting buckle -found on the carrying strap- was commonly manufactured as a cast brass assembly, though some examples are of stamped brass manufacture illustrating the side effects of wartime demands.Top, cast on left; stamped on right: Another angle, this shows the flatter buckle (bottom) of the stamped example compared to the dished buckle seen in the cast example (top): Buckles open, cast on left and stamped on right: Another view of the open buckles, cast on top and stamped on the bottom: Underside of adjusting buckle, cast on left and stamped on right: Link to comment
