SARGE Posted October 21, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 21, 2018 The War Cross for Civil Merit was a civil award of Imperial Austria-Hungary established on 16 August 1915 by Emperor Franz Joseph. It recognized civilian war service during World War I. The cross could also be awarded to military officers for their contributions to the war but who were not directly involved in combat operations. This white enamel cross is the Third Class example and is a pin-back worn on the uniform pocket. It is made of silver and is highly vaulted with a vertical pin. The obverse center of the cross bears the cipher of Emperor Franz Joseph within a silver wreath.
S.ChrisKelly Posted May 11, 2023 Share #2 Posted May 11, 2023 This award is super-rare. Check out this listing from Griffin Militaria, from Dan Griffin, a long-time collector and very highly reputable and respected militaria dealer. He gets good stuff, and it's authentic... and interesting! https://griffinmilitaria.com/product/imperial-austrian-war-cross-for-civil-merit-third-class/
