Here is an early South Vietnamese Army Airborne helmet. Appears to be an early French issue jump helmet ( cloth covered) that was then issued to the ARVNs. Attached to the chin cord is the soldiers dog tag.

Is the jump uniform in the photo French as well?

They are wearing Vietnamese Windproof, blood cake, Bullet proof, sausage, etc ( whatever you prefer to call it) pattern camo uniforms.

We're these a training item or also used in combat jumps?

I am of the opinion that they would have strictly been used for training as they offer no ballistic protection the helmet itself is a Helmet Mle 1950 TAP Gueneau 202 1st production model these particular helmet systems had a long service life in the French Army as a Para training helmet Type 202 1st production models weigh in at approx 345-400 grams, and are constructed of cork ...

There are period images to support that they seen service in Vietnam, Israel, Cambodia and were used as recently as the 1st Gulf War by the Iraqi Military  they were exported and or purchased as surplus from the French government..
