November 11. 1918 - Armistice Day - Remember...............

Recommended Posts

We now call it Veteran's Day in the U.S.. It used to be called Armistice Day as "The Great War" - the War to End All Wars ended at the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month, 1918. Between August 1914 and November 1918, millions of young soldiers from many countries died. One of them was my uncle, Captain Noel Brendan Gill, 18th Bn, the Manchester Regiment, Missing presumed dead on 23 April 1917 near Arras, France. He was 20 years old, from County Tipperary, Ireland and had been a medical student in Dublin, Ireland when he went to war. The link below is to a song called "The Green Hills of France" sung by the group, The Furies. As we collect artifacts of soldiers and wars we must always remember the sacrifice and horrors faced by mem in combat. May All soldiers from All countries who have given their lives Rest in Peace - Forever.

Well said. My 2nd Great Grandfather William Christopher Clark served in the Bedfordshire Regiment and was killed on April 5, 1918 near the Somme. Lest we forget.
