RAF Flight Officer Chancy Morey, 106 Squadron - WWII DFC Group

I have had this group now for over 20 years now. It is a 1943 dated DFC medal group to Flight Officer Chancy Morey of 106 Squadron out of Syerston. Morey was a Canadian from Bow Island Alberta and flew 28 missions as a bomb aimer in Lancasters. I was fortunate to be able to talk to his brother over a series of phone calls about 10 years ago and he was able to fill in a lot of gaps. I also visited the Public Records Office at Kew and photocopied all of his missions and was even able to get an undedacted copy of his RCAF records.

Chancy Morey flew all of his missions in 1943 including the famous Penemunde raid in August. Here is the debriefing. When I found out they shot down a night fighter, I was able to locate that after action report as well. I talked to the son of his pilot one year on the phone and found that Chancy's pilot, Fred Yackman, contacted the International Red Cross to get the names of the German aircrew in order to contact their families after the war.

Chancy Morey was one of 10 children raised in the middle of nowhere. Here is a picture of him as a kid. He passed away in 1981, wearing his medals at a British Royal Legion function. It is nice to know he isn't forgotten.

Outstanding group & research Ski. I've been to Kew myself many times back when I dabbled in RAF/RFC medal groups. Lots of exciting 'finds'! Bob

You used to be able to page through the original war diaries and that was a special treat. Not anymore!

Ski,

Sorry I'm late to the party on this posting. Just a great medal grouping, thanks for showing!

Thanks for the comments. Here is the back with the officially engraved year. I had to reattach the ribbon as I think that Morey added it to his existing medal rack at some point and it was put back in its box after he passed away.
