Old Marine Posted December 19, 2018 #1 Posted December 19, 2018 This is a Mongolian Chengis Khan medal. I got this as a gift from a Mongolian Kalmyk friend. He didn't seem to know much about the medal but told me it was some sort of Mongol Military award given to soldiers who display the martial spirit of Chengis Khan. Who knows if that is accurate. I have seen one listed on Ebay but the seller didn't seem to know much about it either. Do any of you folks have any idea as to what this medal might be? Is it really a Mongolian military award or just a tourist souvenir thing. So far I have not been able to ID it or find anything about it or its age. If any one has any ideas I would really appreciate any observations, comments and opinions. Whatever it actually is, its neat to have a medal with the image of the Great Khan in the collection. Thanks in advance. Dennis

JamesScott Posted May 1 #4 Posted May 1 That’s an interesting piece, from the design and style, it actually looks more like something produced in Inner Mongolia (China) rather than Mongolia itself. Today I have just received two variations of Genghis Khan medals from KhanSurplus.com, both officially issued in 2006 to mark the 800th anniversary of the Mongol Empire in Mongolia. If you're into Genghis Khan medals, those are worth checking out too. Always fascinating to see how both countries honor his legacy in different ways.
