This was pretty much the only thing I bought at the '17 SOS. Several uniforms attracted my attention, but no one was at their tables, and to my disappointment, I returned home with most of my money. Anyways, it's intact, liner is rough, chinstrap is intact. It's got a coat of darker paint on it as well. When was that commonly done? Later war or postwar?

Seller said he got it personally from the French picker that found it, but I just liked having it as an example. Has a name scratched into it, but I don't know if there's any way to decipher it.

Sorry, I'm striking out with finding my references tonight. As a kid, I did some research in the early 70s on what color to paint my $1.00 relic Adrian bought at my first gun show. What I found was that the French experimented during the war, going from very light blue to almost black.
