MattS Posted January 5, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 5, 2019 As I understand it, the duck bill shaped visor with the green underside makes this an earlier cap than the ones with the cloth covered (top and bottom) rounded visor. I restored it using a correct officer's insignia as it was missing from the cap when I got it. Made by the Muir Cap Company of Toronto and featuring 4 vent grommets on the rear skirt of the crown. MattS Posted January 6, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted January 6, 2019 Thanks! When I attached the badge, I added a couple of stitches from the top of the crown to the cap to prevent it from sagging forward and stretching out the mohair band as I've seen happen on some caps. P-40Warhawk Posted January 7, 2019 Share #8 Posted January 7, 2019 That looks really nice. The RCAF and RAF uniforms add some nice color to a 'war room'.
P-40Warhawk Posted January 7, 2019 Share #9 Posted January 7, 2019 I have to say that every time I look at this cap (and it looks great!) I can't help but think of Bernard Fox as an RAF officer in Hogan's Heroes. I guess he just looked the part of the officer.

MattS Posted January 14, 2019 Author Share #13 Posted January 14, 2019 It wasn't a show that was applauded for its historical accuracy, that's for sure!
Allan H. Posted January 14, 2019 Share #14 Posted January 14, 2019 Watching Hogan's Heros as a kid was a real treat. Of course, getting older and realizing that Sergeant Shultz was carrying a Krag rifle and using Swiss ammo pouches, but what really got me was Neukirk wearing a USAF Ike jacket, trousers and o/seas cap with minimal insignia and no flight badge. Brian Keith Posted January 19, 2019 Share #15 Posted January 19, 2019 Nice Cap Matt, Is that what our famous local bag pipe playing Dr. would have worn? BKW Bernard Fox was a sometimes actor on Bewitched, Elizabeth Montgomery (the witch) was easy on the eyes!
Scarecrow Posted January 19, 2019 Share #16 Posted January 19, 2019 Nice cap Matt! You are correct, the caps with the green under visor are earlier. P.S. just finished binge watching all six seasons of Hogan's heroes.
MattS Posted January 19, 2019 Author Share #17 Posted January 19, 2019 Nice Cap Matt, Is that what our famous local bag pipe playing Dr. would have worn? It is! He told me a funny story. Shortly after he was commissioned in the RAF, he went out and bought a nice officer's cap with an embroidered badge that he would stuff behind the seat of his Hurricane during flight. One warm summer day as he came back over England, he decided to slide open his canopy and get some fresh air. He saw something fly past his head just in time to realize the rush of air had whipped his cap up from behind his seat and it flew out of the cockpit. He watched it flutter down into a field somewhere. He said, "Some English farmer got a really nice cap."
