P-40Warhawk Posted January 9, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 9, 2019 I think this is my first post in the the French section, and hopefully not the last. As a matter of context, several years ago I embarked on a journey to build a small part of the collection representing the days of the 1939 'phony war' and also covering the time up to the of June 1940. Some items were easy to find, others still more difficult. In time I put aside my desire for the display due to a lack of space. This empty packet once contained eight 8mm Mle1932 cartridges, which would have been used in a number of French arms of the day, especially the older Berthier and Lebel rifles/carbines. I had heard that although the MAS 36 was in issue, not many units actually had them in the field by May 1940. Instead many carried upgraded versions of the older WWI era weapons. This packet was an ideal display piece, being dated May 15, 1939 (or 15 Mai 1939).
