Kanemono Posted January 24, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 24, 2019 BREN Mk1 Display Light Machine Gun dated 1942The BREN (Brno Enfield) usually called the Bren Gun, was adopted by Britain in the 1930s and used in various roles until 1991. While best known for its role as the British and Commonwealth forces' primary infantry light machine gun (LMG) in World War II, it was also used in the Korean War and saw service throughout the latter half of the 20th century, including the 1982 Falklands War and the 1991 Gulf War. Although fitted with a bipod, it could also be mounted on a tripod or vehicle-mounted. During World War II, the Bren gun became the backbone of the British infantry. Every infantry section of ten men (equivalent to an American rifle squad) and its combat tactics were built around the Bren light machine gun, with the section’s riflemen tasked with augmenting the firepower of the Bren. Each infantry section contained a seven-man Rifle Group, and a three man Bren gun Group. In addition to carrying extra Bren gun ammunition, the Rifle Group would provide security and replacements for the Bren gun crews, while the Bren gunners provided the main killing power of the infantry section. stratasfan Posted January 25, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 25, 2019 Thanks for posting! I've read some about BREN guns, as these were dropped into France for some of the Resistance groups. It sure has a pretty profile for a gun like this! Anyone ever held one? How does it compare, in weight, to a Tommy gun with the round magazine? Link to comment
Kanemono Posted January 25, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted January 25, 2019 Weight of 1928A1 Thompson submachine gun with 50 round drum magazine: 14 3/4 lbs. Weight of BREN Mk1 light machine gun with loaded 30 round magazine: 25lbs. Link to comment
917601 Posted March 6, 2020 Share #4 Posted March 6, 2020 I own a dummy for shows, and a semi auto shooter....legendary weapon, Pakistan used them trough the 1990's but had them rechaimbered to the 7.62 NATO round. Link to comment
917601 Posted March 6, 2020 Share #5 Posted March 6, 2020 Like every other cut mil surp in 2002-3, three cut kits could be had for $125....today they are gone due to them being converted to semi auto shooters bring $3500 plus...a re-welded dummy Bren recently brought $600 on GB, no surprise as it takes a welder a full day to weld them up, grind the welds down then another day to refinish the receiver. The tripods are now running about $400 if you can find one, and the Bren ammo box with mags another $250. Link to comment
917601 Posted March 6, 2020 Share #6 Posted March 6, 2020 You prompted me to pull out and check the shooter, dated 1943, still needs refinishing but shoots well. .303 ammo has skyrocketed, now running about .75 a round, so shooting this beast is for special occasions only. Link to comment
