Can anyone tell me the significance of this stamped "V" tang-marking on otherwise unmarked M36 chained dagger blade? Maker? Inspector?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Jim,

My understanding of these tang markings is that they are the mark of the blade forger. This dagger making business was really a cottage industry for many small companies who did not do all of their work in-house. So, the small edged weapon company would outsource parts from other small makers and then assemble them into a completed dagger. Since yours is not maker marked there is no telling who the forger was. While it is common for SA daggers to be "maker" marked on the blade it is also common for chained SS daggers to have no maker markings on the blade.

I hope this is helpful.
