robinb Posted March 18, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2019 Found at a garage sale long ago. I know the numbers are 9948 but what else does it say?
Rod Posted March 18, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2019 Hi Robin, Your tag is: 空 Air Unit ("Ran" Kanji is missing from the tag) "Ran" 鸞9948 ろほ "Roho" (I don't know enough to speculate whether this is related to code name "Ran") Dai 57 Bango (soldier's number within his company) Blood type "O" 3rd Air Raiding Regiment, 2nd Air Raiding Brigade, 1st Air Raiding Group. Air raiding regiments had an authorized strength of 894 men. The 3rd and 4th Air Raiding Regiments arrived in Manila before Nov. 11, 1944 and made the attack on Buri Airfield, Leyte on Dec 6, 1945. That's one rare tag, amazing history! Congrats Robin! I'm constantly amazed at the great items that keep showing up on Japanese military related chat forums.
