stratasfan Posted March 22, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 22, 2019 Hi! I'd like to get a Legion of Honor medal to display with my WWII Resistance/Free French medals. Am hoping that someone who knows a bit about the LoH medals can help me on a few points. What I've gathered so far from reading online is that the only real difference in design is that the 1870 date was removed from the back after WWII, correct? What are going to be the differences between a WWI-era and a 4th Republic LoH? Also, is one or the other easier to get? What would you say a good price range for either one would be? (I am talking probably the basic level, nothing too fancy.) Thanks for any help! This is a new medal to me, so I am hoping to get a bit of advise! I just want one for display, so am not looking to start a full collection of different types! -grin- Elizabeth
pvon Posted March 24, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 24, 2019 Hello Elizabeth Ok here is some help! 1870 was removed front and replaced with a star in 1951! WW1 got 1870 3rd Republic! And some even in ww2! 4th republic was formed in1951 and ww2 guys got it! My friend says get the 1870 one! Many makers and quality is better! A beautiful medal for sure! But they all are fragil!! Enamel! All periods! Price 80.00 up! If you do not mind some chipping or enamel loss maybe down toward 50.00 Ebay has many but they do not mention damage! Use a magnify glass and look! Do not pay for good. perfect and not recieve! Expect some loss of gild or damage! How picky are you! I went thru my friends and got maybe 4or 5 of the nicest! But I paid 125 or so so you can see the range! Want diamonds? Cost more!!!!!! I showed that and documents for them! in gold thread! Take look! Hope that helps some! PVON They are very beautiful!!Good Luck
stratasfan Posted March 25, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted March 25, 2019 Hi! Many thanks! I'll take your friend's advise and go for the 1870 one. Diamonds? -grin- I'd love to, but . . . . I don't think so. Probably not even in my dream budget! However, I'm going to go find the one you posted. It is probably amazing! Thanks so much! I knew you would have an idea!
