JimD Posted April 3, 2019 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2019 I've owned this one since 1999. Model 40 single decal. Liner is dated 1943. I feel pretty good about the wire for a couple of reasons. The only real remaining part of the army decal lies underneath the wire traverse bar which would have acted to protect it from wear and handling over time during the war. And the rim area of the helmet shows smooth wear and patina from handling which is not present in areas of the rim where the wire prevented direct handling. Navybean Posted April 5, 2019 Share #2 Posted April 5, 2019 Nice looking helmet sure looks good to me. I am not that smart on the chicken wire but I recall it is the number of twists in the wire that might determine if it was European wire. I want to say 5 twists is correct.. which yours appears to have.
