Proud Kraut Posted September 15, 2019 Share #26 Posted September 15, 2019 Very impressive! These painted windows add fantastic detail to the ship, well done! One question, are the gun turrets already painted? They seem to have a lighter color than the bridge on the photos. Lars
ArtyScout Posted September 16, 2019 Author Share #27 Posted September 16, 2019 Thanks Lars; yes the gun turrets have been painted, but have yet to receive their bit of weathering which probably will downplay the Light Grey color. But I don't expect them to change too much. Semper Fi. Manny
Proud Kraut Posted September 16, 2019 Share #28 Posted September 16, 2019 I see, Manny. Looking forward to the next steps. Lars P.S.: Unfortunately not much time for modeling over here these days.
stratasfan Posted September 19, 2019 Share #29 Posted September 19, 2019 Boy, you are doing a super job so far! Thanks for sharing! I love model building! Only done a couple, but I love it! ArtyScout Posted September 20, 2019 Author Share #30 Posted September 20, 2019 Boy, you are doing a super job so far! Thanks for sharing! I love model building! Only done a couple, but I love it! My problem is always the space of where to put them! Thank you for the kind words. I hope you NEVER lose your love of model building. I try to do a little of everything so I can expand my skills and also not become bored with just one genre. At least if storage space is a problem you can do 1/72 scale planes or 1/76 scale tank & vehicles, and if you like French Resistance, try doing 1/35 scale figures only. Then later go to the bigger scales when your storage problem is taken cared of. Good Luck. Semper Fi. Manny
ArtyScout Posted October 3, 2019 Author Share #31 Posted October 3, 2019 Hello everyone. As Lars had mentioned in a post, there doesn't seem to be much time to do any work. Finally I was able to get some hours in the last 3 nights and I'm still not finished with the aft superstructure and plane platform. But its coming along. The plane was camouflaged using silly putty (very small bits of it) and I'm very pleased with the outcome. The bottom of the plane (not shown) is light blue in color. The top of the plane has been gloss coated so I can put the decals on and I still have to do the bottom. I also have a couple of PE ladders that will be attached to the aft superstructure. Enjoy the pics. Semper Fi. Manny

ArtyScout Posted October 5, 2019 Author Share #33 Posted October 5, 2019 Hello, I added the decals to the float plane. Just have to paint the canopy and add the propeller and it done. Semper Fi. Manny
Proud Kraut Posted October 6, 2019 Share #34 Posted October 6, 2019 Hi Manny, I just returned from a short trip and found the next steps of your Graf Spee kit completed. Very nice bi-color paintjob on this tiny Arado waterplane. Yours looks much better than the Airfix 1/72 variant I built as a youngster!
mikie Posted October 10, 2019 Share #35 Posted October 10, 2019 Your ship is shaping up to be in ship shape soon! Sorry about that, but over a week of allergies is making me even more batty than usual. Great work on the plane! Mikie
ArtyScout Posted October 25, 2019 Author Share #36 Posted October 25, 2019 Hello everyone. Its been busy on my end, so the work has been going slow, but not too slow. I added the aft superstructure and I did some rigging using EZ Line. I learned that rigging is done from the bottom-up. Once I got that, it became quite easy, especially with the EZ Line. Since I myself cannot see a ship out of water, I've started putting together the base for my ocean, where this ship will be placed. Also I'm going to prime the PE railings and use those for the outboard railings. I'll post those pics later. Semper Fi. Manny
Proud Kraut Posted October 27, 2019 Share #37 Posted October 27, 2019 Manny, thanks very much for posting these pictures. In fact these riggings were the cause why I stayed away from ship modeling yet. If I got you right, it was done rather easily with EZ line, which I didn't know before. However your ship looks marvelous. Great work. Lars

ArtyScout Posted November 5, 2019 Author Share #39 Posted November 5, 2019 Hello All. Well I'm practically finished with my ship. Just have to weather it a little bit and to flutter the aft ensign. I do like how the PE ship railing came out. Now I'm in the process of putting her into the water. Like I said, I just can't see a ship out of water. Enjoy the pics and as always all comments & critiques are greatly appreciated. Semper Fi. Manny

Proud Kraut Posted November 6, 2019 Share #41 Posted November 6, 2019 Manny, another excellent project. I'm really thinking about adding one of those ship model kits to my want list. Your ship looks fantastic! Please add some pictures of the launching later. Lars
ArtyScout Posted November 26, 2019 Author Share #42 Posted November 26, 2019 OK, with the holidays upon us and just life happening, I wasn't able to finish as fast as I wanted to. I have some progress pics and then I'll post the finished ones. The ship is in the gel medium. It can be a pain to use and I'm trying to figure out how to make it easier to use, but it is the way to go. I just love how the ocean blue comes thru after it dries clear and it has a more realistic ocean water look than painted effects. But that's just my 2 cents. Semper Fi. ArtyScout Posted November 26, 2019 Author Share #43 Posted November 26, 2019 It is Wednesday, December 13,1939. The time is 0616am. Captain Langsdorf has the Pocket Battleship 'Admiral Graf Spee' at flank speed and is turning her to port. Her 11 inch guns are coming to bear on the British Heavy Cruiser HMS Exeter. HMS Light Cruisers Ajax and Achilles round off the Royal Navy flotilla. In a minute he will fire his guns and The Battle of the River Plate will commence. Semper Fi. ArtyScout Posted November 26, 2019 Author Share #44 Posted November 26, 2019 I took these pictures outside, to get the natural effects from the sun on my gel medium water. As always all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated. Now I can head back to Vietnam. Semper Fi. Manny
