Quick Question On The Cold War Era Bundeswehr.

The question is, did the BW have units, combat or otherwise, in West Berlin during the Cold War or were Allied Armies allowed only?

You're welcome! Until 1990 Berlin had a special status. Based on a couple of agreements, especially the London protocoll, the Potsdam agreement and the Occupation Statute the western allies were responsible for the defense of Berlin in a case of military conflict. The western allied decided that with the formation of the Bundeswehr no Bw troops should be garrisoned in (Western-)Berlin. In addition to that until 1990 young German men who lived in Berlin could not be draftet into the Bundeswehr.

Thank you, The Draft, that was another one of my questions, no Draft, No Draft then. how about a West Berliner who wanted to enlist, sure there must of been some who wanted to join the Army or the Navy, could they?, if they could did he have do it in the Western part, fly or take the train out? Wouldn't think now there would be Army and or Navy recruiting offices or ones for Air Force for that matter in West Berlin.

There were no Bundeswehr Freiwilligenannahmestellen/Wehrdienstberater (recruiting offices) in Berlin until 1990. West Berliner could volunteer for serving the Bundeswehr of course and many did. They could leave West-Berlin taking a plane, train or by car (via "Transit Routes").
